Annual report

University of Zurich (UZH)

The University of Zurich (UZH) wanted to transform its annual report from a traditional print format to a more engaging and interactive online experience. The goal was to provide clear, data-driven insights to its stakeholders – including government agencies, employees, alumni, media, donors and students – while improving accessibility, usability and storytelling.

My Role

As part of the Linkgroup UX/UI design team, my key contributions included:

  1. UX/UI Design
  2.  Ensuring an intuitive and visually appealing experience aligned with UZH’s corporate identity.
  3. Page Architecture – Structuring content to enhance readability and engagement.
  4. Design Library Implementation
  5. Standardizing UI components for consistency and efficiency.
  6. Statistics & Interactive Data Visualization
  7. Designing and implementing interactive charts, diagrams, and data-driven infographics for the «Facts» section.

Challenge

The move from print to digital meant rethinking how to present data and complex information. The challenge was to make statistical insights visually appealing while maintaining clarity and accuracy. The interactive elements needed to provide an intuitive experience, allowing users to dynamically explore key figures rather than passively consume static data.

THE SOLUTION

  1. Developed a modular design system to ensure consistency across pages.
  2. Created interactive charts and diagrams that allow users to filter and explore key statistics.
  3. Designed data visualizations that simplify complex numbers, making them accessible to a diverse audience.
  4. Ensured SEO optimization and responsive design for a seamless experience across devices.

IMPACT

The new digital format improved engagement by making it easier for stakeholders to access, understand and interact with key UZH data. The interactive Facts section provided a dynamic way to explore statistics, improving the user experience and making the data more transparent and digestible.
